5 First Date Tips
Your first date with a beautiful woman can feel like a lot of pressure.
You want to take her somewhere fun, that will make you stand out from the other guys. You want her to fall for you. You want her to make her smile and avoid falling into interview mode.
I get all of that: and luckily there are a few very simple ideas for a fun first date that you can use to make sure that you stand out from the other guys, and really enjoy the date too.
And that's my first tip! Go somewhere that you're enthusiastic about visiting. Don't plan a date around asking her what she wants to do, find something you think will be fun, and have a genuine interest in, then take her along to share in your world. Your natural enthusiasm will help to make conversation easier, and she'll appreciate dating a guy who's ok to lead her and have an opinion.
That said there are a few safe guidelines for a place women will tend to appreciate: any date that is unique to her, and non-chain, is going to be a hit. Hitting your local Starbucks (unless it has a really great view) isn't going to be as good as hitting an artisan coffee shop that you discovered has the best brownies in town. By taking her to somewhere non-chain you get to show her that you're a ‘man about town' who has a fun lifestyle- this is so attractive to women. Likewise if you know she loves chocolate ice cream so take her to your favorite Gelatoria then she'll appreciate the thought whilst you tell her how much better the pecan caramel flavor is!
Low key lunches, desserts, cocktails and coffees all make for a great first date. Dinner on a first date can feel a little intense and stilted: plus if you don't hit it off it can be an expensive way to get to kno
w a person. Taking her to grab a slice of cheesecake can feel more indulgent, more relaxed and less pressure for a first date. And a first date that is low key will help her to relax more, so that the conversation flows more easily.
Another great tip to help you avoid ‘interview mode' and have an interesting conversation can be to chose a date that has an activity and a discussion element. By that I mean that you do an activity first that gives you something to talk about: a bike ride, browsing a local market, hitting the fun fair, mini golf (one of my fav's) etc and after that you sit down to have that gelato. This works really well because as you've just shared in a joint activity you have an automatic talking point to kick start your date with.
After that you just need to work on listening and responding to encourage her to keep opening up, followed by some gentle teasing. Personally, it used to drive me crazy when I was on a date with a guy who I felt was just saying his ‘lines' to me and not really listening. Instead let her express herself and then respond in detail to what she says by making a statement about yourself:
Her: I've always loved funfairs.
You: Really? You know what as a kid I wasn't a huge fan: didn't like the clowns. I always preferred to get out on the beach.
If you can combine making her feel really listened to and heard with some playful teasing this is a great combination to have a really fun date:
Her: I've always loved funfairs.
You: Really? I thought you might have been afraid of the clowns! Due to your love of animals I thought you'd be more of a feed the penguins at the zoo kind of girl.
Follow these five very simple, common sense tips on first dates and you're going to both feel more relaxed, have more fun and want a round two!
